What Will Local Chapter Leaders Be Responsible for?
The development of a new Real Talk Philosophy Local Chapter can seem daunting. This process, though, can be divided into 4 stages. This progression ensures that new local chapters are established on a solid foundation and not overwhelmed with too many responsibilities.
Stage 1: Setting a Solid Foundation
Organize a Local Team or Decide to Work Solo
At this stage, working alone is possible, but the experience will likely be more enjoyable if the Local Chapter Leader has friends to share responsibilities with.
Find the Perfect Venue and Negotiate Commission
The perfect Real Talk venue has: 1) a projector/television, 2) seating for 30+ people that can be arranged for everyone to see the projection screen and engage in small-group discussions, 3) a food and drink menu with veg options.
Venues usually pay 15-25% commission to Local Chapter Leaders for bringing customers to their establishment.
Determine Day, Time, and Entry Fee
Speak with your community about what day/time would be best to host your events. Choose an entry fee that is sustainable and competitive.
Find a Front Door Manager
The Front Door Manager is responsible for welcoming guests, collecting entry fees, and tracking attendance. Venues sometimes offer one of their staff members for this. Finding a volunteer for this role is also possible.
Create and Manage a Facebook Group
Facebook Groups are a phenomenal way to keep local guests informed about your events. You’re invited to create events on www.meetup.com, etc. as well.
Explore Local Content Laws
Some countries have special provisions regarding sexually explicit content, religious content, anti-government content, etc. Though our Central Team will provide support, ensuring that events follow the laws of the country are ultimately the responsibility of the Local Chapter Leader.
Stage 2: Managing Simple Events
Attend Weekly LCL Meetings
Meet with other Local Chapter Leaders, researchers, musicians, artists, etc. each week on Zoom to review the content of the upcoming week’s event. This will ensure you understand the material and give you a chance to ask questions and suggest edits, additions, and subtractions.
Self Study and Additional Research
The Central Team will provide LCLs with presentation slides including facts, statistics, stories, questions, arguments, art, videos, and more. Do your best to master this content and to use it as a jumping-off-point for your own exploration.
Advertise Local Events
The Real Talk Philosophy Central Team provides Local Chapter Leaders with advertising templates, guidelines, and direct support. As LCLs understand their cities best, advertising will ultimately be their responsibility.
Manage and Facilitate Weekly Local Events
At this stage, Local Chapter Leaders will only be responsible for presenting contextualizing information and organizing small-group discussions. Games, contests, experiments, music, poetry, etc. will come later.
Hire a Photographer and Post Photos
Distributing photos online is by far the best organic marketing Real Talk Philosophy employs. Friends see their friends tagged in photos, engaged in deep, meaningful, conversation and want to be a part of the experience.
Track Finances, Distribute Money, and Pay Royalty
You will be provided with forms, spreadsheets, guidelines, and guidance to assist you in tracking revenue, expenses, and payments.
Pay Royalty Fee
Local Chapter Leaders are responsible for submitting a 15% royalty fee to Real Talk Philosophy. This Royalty Fee allows us to pay our team of researchers, musicians, artists, administrators, designers, etc. This royalty must be submitted by the 10th of each following month (e.g. 15% of March gross revenue must be submitted no later than 10 April).
Stage 3: Managing Complex Events
Games and Interactive Activities
Live Music, Poetry, and Other Performances
Expert Panelists
Additional Presenters
Stage 4: Involving the Community
Special Events
Host parties, trips, film screenings, concerts, gallery shows, and more featuring Real Talk Philosophy content and highlighting content created by the Local Team.
Open Mic Philosophy Nights
Partner with Local Organizations and Universities
Hire Local Creatives
Events will attract artists, musicians, researchers, etc. who can be paid for their work to be added to the Real Talk Philosophy Content Library and used in future events.
