Meditation

Jon has taught meditation theory and technique since 2016.

In 2010, Jon was inducted into the Sacred Circle of the Medicine Buddha at the Baltimore Yoga Village under the direction of Adhikari Sacha, a disciple of Shantimayi Sacha. At this ceremony, Jon dedicated his life to the pursuit of the mitigation of suffering. Jon soon began studying meditation and eastern philosophy under the guidance of Adhikari Sacha. In addition to meditation, Jon continued his asana yoga practice, chanting the Medicine Buddha Mantra and Gayatri Mantra with Adhikari, and attending monthly new moon purification sweat lodge ceremonies of the Lakota tradition with Bob Lightning Flash.

In 2016, Jon began leading weekly meditations in Hanoi, Vietnam based on the teachings of S. N. Goyenka, Thich Nhat Hanh, Huong Po, Alan Watts, Tara Brach, and Sam Harris. That same year,, Jon sat his first 10-day S. N. Goyenka vipassana meditation course in Hong Kong. The following year, Jon sat and served as the Kitchen Manager for a 10-day vipassana meditation course in Delaware, USA. In 2017, Jon began teaching meditation technique and theory as a part of Zenith Yoga's 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Course in Hanoi.

Testimonials

Jon is a knowledgeable, encouraging, and enthusiastic advocate and guide for developing yoga and meditation practices. The Hanoi Meditation group that he started and led was the first encounter that many people who now regularly meditate—myself included—had with mindfulness practice. His love and energy towards yoga/meditation practice and the philosophy behind it is contagious.

I am Thuỷ Nguyen, yoga teacher with 9 years of yoga practicing and teaching. I joined Jon’s meditation group for few months before he left Vietnam and I really loved it. Jon has so much kindness, compassion, and love within him that made meditation with him very safe and naturally calm. And I believe all of us who have joined his meditation group share the same feelings. I have learnt lots from him and I’m sure he will inspire many more people wherever he goes.

Jon is one of my most favorite meditation guides I’ve experienced because of his soft and gentle voice, his natural way of leading and spreading love. Jon initiated a weekly meditation group in Hanoi which also created solid and meaningful connections among all of us who attended.

Jon does an excellent job of making people feel welcomed, connected, and at ease. He has a way with people that is unparalleled to anybody I’ve ever met. The meditation group catered to quite an eclectic group of individuals and somehow Jon managed to connect with everybody! He navigates language barriers, varying degrees of extraversion, and different levels of experience, seamlessly. His communication skills are concise and follow a logical pattern that is easy to understand.
